I live for a nautical and classic look and these culottes rock my world. I love that I can pair them with fabulous heels or comfy flats. I also love that they are high waisted for a and the color cream is just my fave! I topped this look with a silk blouse and chic double breasted coat ( which happens to be on SALE)!!!
Velvet is having a HUGE moment this season and nothing feels more luxe! When Banana Republic rolled out their new collaboration with Olivia Palermo, I squealed! This gorgeous velvet blazer was one of the pieces from the collection and I am so smitten with it. It's tailored in all the right places and can be mixed with jeans, trousers or even a flowy dress.

Our Southern Cali weather is super slow to get the memo that it's officially fall! We are still hitting triple digits here on most days! I have a closet of cute fall outfits all ready to go but in the mean time I will pair my dresses with sleek loafers for a transitional look until the weather catches up. When the temps cool down, I plan to top this dress with a black blazer, tights and booties for a warm layered look.

This past Sunday I had the most fun ever at the Emmy's!! I was invited to join Dooney and Bourke for a night of red carpet, live show, endless celebs and Govenor's Ball. To say it was amazing was an understatement! Here is a little video recap of it all!

The girls go back to school next week and it's all bitter sweet! We have had a great summer but I can't say I'm ready for a routine again. We are stocking up on our "Back to School" outfit staples and have our closets almost ready for the new year.
When planning outfits for back to school, I always aim for a capsule approach. A "capsule" wardrobe is one that each piece is timeless and can be interchanged with the others to create different looks for each season. We aim for comfy dresses and tops that can be layered with cool denim jackets or leggings when the weather chills. I also like to shop for the comfiest of shoes. I a only buy shoes that last and can be worn with a million different outfit combos. We typically opt for one pair of "running" shoes, one pair of boots that can double as rain boots, and one pair of fashionable shoes like booties.
I'm all about a simple wardrobe full of key basics that can be mixed and mingled. Fall is my favorite for layering easy pieces to create a million different looks. Here are a couple essentials that you MUST have in your closet this Fall!
We snuck away for some beach camping this summer at Newport Dunes. Not only is camping one of our most favorite family activities it's the best way for us to unplug! We grilled, swam, fished, worked endlessly on our 1000 piece puzzle. If looking for a super fun and super easy family vacation in Southern California, you must try Newport Dunes! We are already planning our next trip!

As many of you know if you follow my Instagram or Snapchat (username: LifewLipstick) , that we recently moved! A little back story....for years we had been envisioning ourselves moving closer to the beach. We had a plan to relocate before the girls got to engrained in school. My husband got a new job near the coast around the new year and it seemed like the time was right. We went on full force crazy house hunting. I mean check Redfin, Trulia, Zillow 7,000 times a day crazy! It was bad!! I would call my husband in the middle of his work day after just leaving open houses. He would send me link after to link to different options. In the end nothing felt right. Nothing gave me the "pitter patter heart" feeling of wanting spending Christmases and hosting dinner parties and taking walks in the neighborhood in each house. You know, that "girl" feeling. We had basically thrown in the towel after so much frustration. I started poking around in our current area again and landed on one that looked promising. I drove the street and just knew it was right. When I got to the house, I of course snuck into the backyard since no one was living in the home and had all the "feels" . It was OUR house! I called Erik and we scheduled a walk through with our realtors and made a game plan to make it happen. Within a month we were in our new home! We have endless plans for it and couldn't be more thrilled!
Since our home was built in the 1950's we are planning for lots of updates and adding personal touches! We started with the front of the house. We changed out the paint, freshened up the landscaping and added on a gable to the front as well as new lighting and front door. We loved the feel of chic modern farmhouse. Very Joanna and Chip Gaines of us, I know! We also plan to continue the brick on the porch and add on rocking chairs and some potted plants. We have been in our new home for about 3 months now and I've been in major decor mode. Talking hours of Pinterest!! We definitely have a coastal, nautical love in our decor and I picked my faves from the Nordstrom Sale that may just make their debut in our new kitchen and family room. Nothing has ever made me feel more like a girl boss than wearing all white and black. I don't know why but it's my "gonna crush this" uniform. Mix that with a little nautical and I'm such a happy camper! These amazing black pants fit like sweatpants and make even my short legs seem long! There is nothing more in my life that I want than to feel tall and these pants did the trick! I'm telling you, GIRL BOSS!! The buttons put me over the edge and I just had to have them!
