Our weather has been so gorgeous lately. It's been crisp in the mornings and a perfect 75 with a breeze in the evenings. I am dreaming of hot apple cider on a rocking chair on our porch. Dreamy right?! I'm starting to slowly bring out my cooler weather pieces in my closet. I love the way a chic boot can change the whole feel of a look. Floral dresses paired with suede booties or skinny jeans tucked into slouchy bootie styles. I'm always partial to a pointed toe style. I feel like it elongates any leg and keeps the look feeling chic and elevated. I've collected my favorites for this fall all under $150.
Were we live, summer hangs on for quite some time. Our summer wardrobes need to stretch a little longer yet have a transitional feel for when nights get cooler. I have been eyeing some great classic pieces that will get me through summer, the cooler seasons of Fall/Winter and even into spring. I love all these picks because they can be layered, mixed and mingled or worn separately and work seamlessly together. This is my method of shopping always. I only like to add pieces into my wardrobe that can be worn at least 3 different ways. Here I have slightly paired everything in outfit suggestions in each row to help you envision how I saw each piece working as an outfit.
My dear friend and Orange County fine art photographer Christina of Hello Blue Photo works with me in the wedding industry. When I say this girl is a girl boss, I mean girl BOSS. Her work has been featured on top wedding blogs like Style Me Pretty, Grey Likes and Brides along with major print publications like US Weekly, People and Instyle.
Our wardrobe for wedding days and meetings with clients has to be fairly specific. With the work load of a photographer on a wedding day you have to look chic and polished but be able to be on her feet all day, bend, sprint and get all sorts of athletic all while blending in perfectly. Tricky right?! When Christina reached out for some advice on work looks I jumped right in! There is nothing more fun for me than to play dress up with my fab friends. Christina is a major babe and has a super cool, feminine and boho look. Very different than mine so I thought picking looks for her would be a super fun challenge. When we discussed her likes and dislikes, we ruled out form fitting, anything off the shoulder ( not so practical for wedding days) and of course anything overly patterned or white.
Taking full advantage of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, I curated a large selection of dresses, jumpers, jogger pants, shoes and bags to piece together for a closet full of chicness.
Here are a couple of my favorite pieces that I've created looks around. I like to aim to create capsule collections so every piece in your closet can be mixed and mingled and worn multiple different ways. Add a blazer or chic suede moto jacket over any of these looks to change the whole feel of the outfit.

It's that time of year! The Nordstrom Anniversary sale is the by far the biggest sale of the year! Thousands of staple pieces, sweaters, boots and coats are all on major mark down! It's the perfect time to snag all the best Fall and Winter pieces for when the weather cools down. I love winter dressing!
All these picks are shopable with your Early Access to the sale. In order to be able to shop early, you will need a Nordstrom Debit or Credit card.
I've rounded up all my most favorite pieces for the chicest winter wardrobe!
Cozy night in
We are headed to Hotel Del Coronado for the Fourth of July! We love it there and they know how to do the Fourth right!! Coronado Island has a annual Fourth of July parade honoring veterans and those in active duty. Back at the resort they host outdoor movie, smores, crafts and the biggest fireworks show we have ever seen all to music! I rounded up my favorite eats at The Del the last 4th of July we visited for the foodie! I love dressing for the Fourth! So festive! I've rounded up all the pieces I plan to sport on our trip!
I love the classic look of a clean button up! The sillouette is so flattering and feels so timeless. Here are 4 ways I love to style a collared button up look.
We are headed to Palm Springs again this year for spring break! I'm so excited to blob it out by the pool under the desert sun! We typically stay at the Omni Las Palmas but due to not knowing my hubbies schedule we got in on that gig a little late. So we are changing it up this year and trying out La Quinta Resort and Spa.
With all the lovely weather ahead of us this spring it was the perfect excuse to pump up my spring essentials. Enter sundresses, sandals, sunnies and swimsuits. I mean check out that alliteration!
I feel like spring is upon us and I'm obsessing over the sweet blush pink tones floating in! From home decor, swim, sundresses and athleisure you can find me in this cotton candy pink for the next handful of months! Here are a couple of the prettiest pink must haves I have found for Spring!
I had the most amazing weekend! If you follow my Insta stories you know how bougie and gorgeous my weekend has been! I would hate me!! After the holiday's I felt so in need of a break. Not to say we didn't have a really great Christmas and New Years, I think we can all agree the holiday's are a lot of hustle bustle. I was ready to get organized and back on track with goals and plans for an exciting 2017 but needed a little kickstart.
My grandma lives in Washington on Bainbridge Island and every January and February she comes to So Cal to beat the winter. We typically spend the couple months on Balboa Island at our favorite beach house that we have rented for years but this year we decided to mix it up. This time of the year is always so special for our family. I have a really close family whom I adore and it's so beyond reviving to be together! We sit around and talk for hours, take little excursions, see movies we're all wanting to see etc. Nothing really major ever is on the agenda but our time together is all we need. We love it! In leu of Balboa Island this year, we decided to move grammy into Pelican Hill. It was beyond heaven! She moved into a three bedroom villa bigger than my house! It is magical! The views are incredible and we had the best time!
I dropped off the girls with my mother in law on Friday night and high tailed it to meet my mom and grammy that night. We had an awesome dinner then tucked in by the fire and talked until 1:00 am. Nothing like hours of girl talk to clean the brain! The next morning, my mom and I woke up and did some yoga and headed to Lido Village for some shopping! I had been wanting to visit there for a while now and particularly wanted to play at Serena and Lily! Both my mom and I are obsessed with home decor and projects right now. I am starting on the girls rooms in a couple weeks along with kitchen reno right after and mom has a bunch of rooms she is working on at her house. We could have left Serena and Lily with every piece! I think mom may just might!
That night, I picked up the girls and we had another great dinner in and snuggled in for a cozy night. We hit the pool the next day and my 86 year old grammy played with the girls in the pool for about an hour! She was the cutest!
Back to reality this morning as I dropped the girls off at school after our long winter break. I am looking forward to getting back to our routine. I have the house to put back together, projects to coordinate and dinners to plan! I feel so lucky to have had such a great weekend to get me back in gear! Until next weekend Pelican Hill!
I have been on the hunt for over the knee boots for a while now. With my shorter frame, I find that it is hard to find flattering styles that don't make me look like a pirate. I love that the tops of these are laced up in the back for a snug fit. I also opted for a flat version so I could wear them more. I plan to rock these with sundresses and leather jacket, over jeans and here I paired them with a tunic sweater and leather leggings and coat.
We have been having so much fun decorating the house, planning school parties and holiday dance shows this last week! I have fully embraced my inner "dance mom" at this point! She has been waiting patiently to come out and it's go time! Both of the girls are in jazz right now while Capri still does ballet at a separate studio. The jazz girls are performing at the Mission Inn's Festival of Lights this year and I'm dying! I live for this stuff! Us moms have gotten together for full sequin domination on the girl's performance shirts. We have gloves, leg warmers and bows that rival the size of a bowling ball in the works! Going to be the cutest thing I've ever seen!
I also need to brag for a second and say I have crushed my shopping list this year! Granted, I only have like 5 gifts to buy but still worth noting! We don't go overboard at all on the girl's gifts. Growing up we got about 4-5 gifts and it was just perfect.
My Black Friday and Cyber Monday picks are rolling in and I am so giddy! We have plaid top, velvet top, this adorable wrap skirt, super chic booties and some over the knee boots! Winning!!!! Do you girls get anything fabulous for yourself? Share! Share!
It's "fancy" dress season! (insert happy dance) With all the festivities coming, there is nothing more fun than taking it up a notch! I've rounded up my favorite holiday worthy dresses for you today!! Cheers to looking fabulous!
We just got home last night from our cruise and are adjusting to land legs again. We had the best time!!! It's our annual Disney cruise that we make into a "girls trip" with my mom, myself and the kidlets. We got to fly first class this year which was a real treat! Hello, ice-cream sundae and champagne!!! Not to mention, I sat across from Henry Cavill for the 5 hour flight! Not sad at all! I'm sure he is seeking a restraining order at the moment! We typically stay in Miami the night before embarking the ship so so we have plenty of time. We boarded Wednesday and partied our booties off until Sunday! I will do a full recap post on it next week!
We are back to rainy, cozy weather today at home which this mama is soaking up! I plan on lighting every candle in the house, firing up the fire place for the first time since in the new house and padding around in my robe all day! I may even destroy a couple online sales popping up before Black Friday and Cyber Monday! Speaking of sales, this jacket is on major sale right now! I'm so glad I snatched it up in early fall because I've been wearing it on repeat. I styled it here with a cozy camel colored sweater, skinny jeans and my favorite leather booties. I also used it to top off a clean navy blue blouse and white culottes here. It's so versatile and the heavy collar gives it such a chic look.
I paired the coat today with a winter look over a wine colored v-neck sweater and festive plaid skirt. Both the sweater and skirt are on sale now too!! This look would be perfect for Thanksgiving dinner or brunch this Christmas season!
Stay tuned for lots of goodies being added to the SHOP tab at the top of my site as well as the rest of my specially curated gift guides rolling out this week! Never miss a beat and get updates early by subscribing to Life with Lipstick On too!
I'm on this major "clean up my life" kick right now and really trying to tighten up our routine with the kids to help them be less messy! The messes are on another level!! We are tackling the deep cleaning and the projects that have been shuffled to the side. I decided to break our chores down so I didn't lose my mind cleaning and the girls can tackle each day's task quickly. We are three days in and it's going well! No my house isn't all clutter free but we are making some major breakthroughs with my little piggies! Any clean up tricks you mama's have had success with?
In other news, this bomber jacket is getting so much play with fall! I paired it here with a purple shift dress and today with a floral wrap dress. I also wore it over the weekend with distressed jeans, flats and a tee. Favorite peice in my closet right now! Why wear black when you can mix it up with olive green?
We had a fun and pretty relaxing weekend! On Saturday night we met up with some good friends to try the Eskape Room. Have any of your tried one? Here's how it goes, you are given clues and puzzles to try and escape your room. You are trying to smart your way out of a room basically. Once you have figured out all the clues and decoding you can unlock the door with one of the codes. So to give you the whole picture, I was going with an attorney and two police officers. I was obviously going to be completely worthless in my "decoding knowledge" . It was so much fun though! We ended being in an expert room which was definitely expert! Even our guys couldn't figure some of it out! I can't wait to go again and try a beginner level to redeem myself and my smarts! Overall a great double date!
This weekend was a good one!!! I kicked it off with a facial on Friday, which was such a luxury. I was excited to try Facial Works in Newport since I'd only heard rave reviews of it's adorable atmosphere and awesome treatments. I opted for the Anti-Aging treatment because I feel like the second I turned 30 the skin game was on. Hello crow's feet!!! More on that whole decadent experience tomorrow!
Sunday we celebrated my cousin and her bun in the oven at her baby shower. Check out all the sweetness on Snapchat today @LifewithLipstick I love a good party! We decked out my parent's home with gorgeous long family style tables donned with gorgeous driftwood and succulent centerpieces. We nibbled on fresh sweet and savory crepes and sipped champagne. I can't wait to get my hands on her new little guy this November! #givemeallthebabies
This week I get to play with Peyton at her Kindergarten field trip to the LA Zoo. I live for field trips and class parties. I can't wait to see the monkey's and spend the day with my little peanut.
I live for a nautical and classic look and these culottes rock my world. I love that I can pair them with fabulous heels or comfy flats. I also love that they are high waisted for a and the color cream is just my fave! I topped this look with a silk blouse and chic double breasted coat ( which happens to be on SALE)!!!
This past Sunday I had the most fun ever at the Emmy's!! I was invited to join Dooney and Bourke for a night of red carpet, live show, endless celebs and Govenor's Ball. To say it was amazing was an understatement! Here is a little video recap of it all!
The girls go back to school next week and it's all bitter sweet! We have had a great summer but I can't say I'm ready for a routine again. We are stocking up on our "Back to School" outfit staples and have our closets almost ready for the new year.
When planning outfits for back to school, I always aim for a capsule approach. A "capsule" wardrobe is one that each piece is timeless and can be interchanged with the others to create different looks for each season. We aim for comfy dresses and tops that can be layered with cool denim jackets or leggings when the weather chills. I also like to shop for the comfiest of shoes. I a only buy shoes that last and can be worn with a million different outfit combos. We typically opt for one pair of "running" shoes, one pair of boots that can double as rain boots, and one pair of fashionable shoes like booties.
